GamePop is an exhilarating music game that invites players to hit the notes of their favorite songs. What makes it truly unique is the ability to create custom levels using YouTube videos! When the notes glide to the center of the screen, players can hit the corresponding keys (ASDF) on their keyboard to score points.
Inspired by iconic rhythm games like Tap Tap Revenge and OsuMania, GamePop has a catchy name that cleverly plays on popular music genres, such as kpop (Korean pop), cpop (Chinese pop), and jpop (Japanese pop). Your score hinges on the accuracy and timing of your key presses, as well as the length of your streaks. After completing a level, players can accumulate experience points and level up, which, while currently just a bragging right, adds to the competitive spirit. Scores can be shared on a level leaderboard, and players have the option to add a personalized message of up to 32 characters. There’s also a global leaderboard for the top players!
Game Modes: Join the action in either single player or multiplayer modes.
GamePop can also serve as a music playlist, making it perfect for background listening. While personal rooms for playing with friends are currently not available, we are considering this feature for future updates.
Level Creation: Crafting a custom level is a breeze. Simply select “Create a Level” from the top menu, enter a YouTube link, and you're set to play the video and create notes using the ASDF keys. You can restart the creation process with [R] or delete notes individually. Navigate through the video timeline with the progress bar, and add a title, description, and tags to finalize your level. Once published, your level appears on the front page and may even show up in multiplayer rooms!
Leaderboards: Access to leaderboards is exclusive to registered users. Signing up allows players to level up and submit scores. You can even customize key bindings for the ASDF keys to suit your preferences.
Experience GamePop: When visiting gpop.io, players can click “Play” to join a multiplayer room, immersing themselves in the game whether others are online or not. The front page displays a list of recently created levels for easy access. Many players enjoy mastering a specific level, leading to a highly competitive leaderboard!
Overall, GamePop offers a casual and engaging experience that can be enjoyed solo or with friends. There is ample opportunity for future enhancements, including new note types and additional game modes.
